100 Days of Kindergarten Project

I've been working on some illustrations at work lately, which has been cool. So, maybe I'll put some of that up soon. But, until then, I have to drop this on. M had a 100 Days of Kindergarten project, and Patrizzia saw some people adding 100 eyes to monster drawings. So, last night, we did ours. I drew this guy with Sharpies, and M helped me color it with Sharpies, Crayon and paint for the stars. And, we dropped on 100 googly eyes. This was so much fun to do, and she loved it. I can't wait to do another fun project with her.

Happy Holidays 2011

My goodness, it's been 10 months since I added any new artwork. I suppose the grind of doing a daily drawing, scanning it and posting it for 17 months straight (started in October 2009) was just getting old. Anyhow, I plan to do some more things, but I doubt that it will be daily. Oh well. What does it matter? I do miss drawing that often. So, just to put something new up, here is this year's Holiday Illustration that I had to do at work. Lame. Yes, I know. But, it was not my idea. I just created what they asked for. So, I'm an art whore. What are you gonna do? Boy, I do miss posting things.

Oh, and I did this entire piece on Photoshop using the drawing tablet. So, I drew a sketch first, then an ink layer, and then layers of coloring. So much fun.

I've been keeping up with the drawing every day...peppered with a couple "fails" in there. My interest is waning, but I've kept with it. Once we get some things in order at home, I'll have the time to scan all these little doodles and drop them in. Damn. That really takes a long time.

So, in the meantime, here are a couple book cover illustrations I did a years ago for freelance jobs (2005 and 2008). They are both acrylic paintings and were done actual size (about 10" x 8"). I also did the text designs, and the second one with the new Pope is much better. Maybe I'll throw up a few other things until I get the time to scan in the doodles. Enjoy.

Death

After a couple weeks of incredible snowfall and record breaking low temperatures, today made it over 40 degrees. That's amazing. It's about 65 degrees warmer than it was 3 days ago. Crazy. Crusty

Wow. That was disgusting. Those were some pretty huge hard chunks of...."stuff"...that I just launched out of my sinuses. Hey sinusitis...suck it. Well, at least the crusty little guy looked happy.

By the way, I thought it was cold the other day, and I was wrong. It was a record low of NEGATIVE 19 this morning by my house. That's NOT the wind chill. Holy crap. I drove into work for that one. Walking across the city is not recommended in that weather, especially when your sinuses are about to explode.

Snot Monster

This has been a pretty terrible upper respiratory infection. I've been sick since December 26th. Two ear infections, a throat infection, Acute Bronchitis with a little touch of pneumonia and now, a devilish sinus infection. This has been so shitty that I have completely lost my sense of smell. I can't even smell bleach straight from a bottle. Two rounds of antibiotics and steroids have done...not too much. Oh well. I gotta go blow some more massive snot out of my sinuses. Yay!

Friggin' Cold

So, it's pretty cold out. Like...instant pain on your skin, cold. And, walking in this weather against a strong wind coming off of a lake...is not recommended. Whenever I see that the temperature is starting off at below zero, then I know that I am in for a fun walk.

Mr. Nose Can't Smell Anything

This is really strange. I seriously cannot smell anything right now, and that has never happened to me before. Like, I literally can't smell. I sprayed Lysol, shoved my face in the mist, inhaled, and I did not smell Lysol. That is not possible. You can smell Lysol on a dead bloated body. That's how strong that stuff is. Hey sinus infection...bite me and leave me alone.

Shoveling

This is a quick sketch of our front yard. The end of the sidewalk is about a 4 foot tall snow drift. The back yard was hit hard too and looked much worse. Pretty amazing stuff. It's definitely a pretty hard working "snow day" from work. Work would actually have been easier.

Snowmageddon

Holy crap. They, as in the weather folks, were right on target. It's pretty nasty out there, and it's only gonna get worse tonight. This will be like the blizzard of '67 that I heard all about for years. The SNOWMAGEDDON of Eleven! I like that. Apparently, there was also Thundersnow and lightning. We may have missed that part, but with all the 50 mph gusts of wind and screaming children, I don't think we could have heard any thunder. Score another one for mother nature. She can kick our asses any day.

Apple

Today, we finally received our new Apple computers to replace the 6 year old G5's. They are awesome, and the screen is almost TOO large (27 inches). Plus, we have the older monitor still (23 inches). So, both together is kinda crazy. Pretty friggin' sweet.

Tin Man

We're watching The Wizard of Oz right now, by M's request. She is so sweet. When the twister was coming, she screamed at Dorothy, "Get in the house!" And, when the witch was around, M was swinging a play sword at the TV. I love it. So, I felt like doodling the Tin Man. The pen I used is too thick for drawing this small, but it's OK, I suppose. These characters would be nice to do as larger portraits. We'll see.

Crazy Hat

So, this kid is all ready for some snow action. Everything is in line except for that crazy hat. Do you remember when your winter hats always slid around on your head when you were a kid? They would stretch out and never be the same. And, that really cuts into your outside fun, especially when your parents constantly tell you to put your hat back on. This kid looks mad, and I don't blame him.

Perfect Tree

This drawing makes me very happy. It was fun to do, but I was torn on whether to keep it all black ink or to color it. So, I scanned the black and white version to hold on to it, and then I colored the original with the ink pens, markers and colored pencil. So, you can see both versions. Hey Trish

So, I drew this guy. And, when I finished, he looked exactly like Patrizzia's uncle Claudio. He calls her Trish. Now, I don't know if he has hairy shoulders or not. Like I said, I drew it first and then realized that it looked like him. Obviously, he's Italian. So, there you go. And, every time I look at this, I hear him say, "Hey Trish."

The following is a phone conversation between Gumdrop Andy and his buddy, Cthulhu. They met on this day last year. (Note the awesome old school phone that Cthulhu still uses)

Andy: Hey Cthulhu, how've you been?

Cthulhu: Oh, just fine, Andy.

Andy: It's been a while. I've been thinking of visiting you in a few months.

Cthulhu: That sounds great. Seriously, my schedule is wide open.

Cthulhu: Yeah, for the first time in years, I don't have any major events coming up. I'm just enjoying the holidays...getting ready for Thanksgiving and such.

Andy: Me too. Trying not to eat too much.

Cthulhu: Now THAT'S been harder for me. I just can't stop devouring people, demons and animals. Hey, it's what I do.

Andy: What are you gonna do, right?

Cthulhu: Exactly. Take me as I am.

Andy: You know, that's what I've been telling some of my friends. I'm sweet and trusting. That's not gonna change.

Cthulhu: Hey, that's why I didn't eat you! Well, that and my diabetes. Ha!

Andy: Ha HA! Boy, I can't wait to come out there. How is Vhoorl these days?

Cthulhu: Awesome. Great weather. Good food.

Andy: What can we do down there?

Cthulhu: Gosh, anything really. There's a couple nice strip clubs I frequent.

Andy: Oooh...now you're talkin'.

Cthulhu: You may be TOO sweet for those, though.

Andy: True. But, no matter what, as long as we are hangin' out, it'll be fun.

Gingerbread Man

So, we had some print-outs of gingerbread men shapes for M to color. I took one that she cut out and made this guy with good old fashioned crayons. She liked it.

Circus Clown

So, we went to the Circus today. It was fun, but difficult with a pooping 5 month old. Some of the acrobatics were amazing. And, the clowns were fun. M had a great time. But, you give her popcorn and cotton candy, and she would have fun at a funeral. Patrizzia bought be a colored ink pen set from Staedtler (HERE). They are awesome, and it was fun to add some color to these tiny drawings. Thanks Patri.
